Hands on Approach Joint Mobilization/Manipulation
The goal of joint mobilization/manipulation is to restore maximal, pain-free movement of the musculoskeletal system in postural balance. There are many methods of manual joint mobilization, combined with different amplitudes and velocities, and most important there are multiple contraindications to manual procedures. Much research suggests some methods of joint mobilization are quite effective in decreasing pain and tension in surrounding soft tissue structures, where other methods are effective in restoring range of motion. Which method or combination of methods is best for you is dependent on the nature of the injury/dysfunction. Many injuries/dysfunctions may not require use of joint mobilization, however it is used often in our clinic when treating joint dysfunctions/limitations and/or for pain relief.
