Custom Orthotics
Rarely are orthotics the sole intervention to remedy patient's complaints, although they do offer an excellent adjunct to traditional treatment. As with all injuries, we must identify and address the underlying cause of the problem, rather than simply treat the symptoms. A few of the many contributing factors are ankle stability, altered gait biomechanics and poor footwear. Proper shoewear can eliminate the cost and need for orthotics. We use a number of clinical tests, including slow motion video analysis, to help you purchase the biomechanically correct shoe. In some cases, the shoe may not be soft or rigid enough. Custom orthotic intervention may be the alternative solution as to assist in absorbing the ground reaction force and/or slow early and/or excessive pronation, with the rearfoot and forefoot varus posting as needed.
